Learn More About Our Services!

Meal Delivery is the main specialization of Meals on Wheels San Antonio!

We deliver meals for lunch, breakfast, and the weekend. In fact, for many of our clients, the nutritious, lunch-time meal we provide is the only meal they eat for the day.  In order to better maintain the health of these individuals Meals on Wheels also provides packages of breakfast food items and/or specially made frozen meals to offer additional nutrition outside of the lunch-time hours.

While we do not have strict qualifications, we generally serve clients who:

  • Are unable to make their meals
  • Are homebound
  • Are not able to drive

If you fit one of the above qualifications, we encourage you to call 210-735-5115 and ask for our Client Services department if you think you may qualify for services or would like to talk to one of our team members.

We currently serve Bexar County and the surrounding areas!

To apply for services, please give us a call at 210-735-5115 or click the link below to refer yourself or your loved one!

We currently have three support services for our Meals on Wheels clients:

AniMeals provides assistance in caring for the pets of seniors in San Antonio.

AniMeals was launched in 2014 after Meals on Wheels realized that our seniors were often sharing their home-delivered meals with their pets. Many of our homebound seniors struggle to feed themselves and their animal companions. AniMeals strives to ensure that both the client and their furry companions are healthy and receiving proper nutrition from appropriate food sources.

PET FOOD ASSISTANCE

AniMeals, a donation-sustained service, provides monthly deliveries of pet food to clients who find it hard to maintain the nutrition of their furry companions. Each month we distribute over 5,000lbs of pet food to more than 500 pets. Volunteers deliver pet food the third weekend of every month and provides another wellness check on seniors, further enabling their independence.

VETERINARY CARE ASSISTANCE

AniMeals provides access to and payment for veterinary care for pets of current Meals on Wheels San Antonio clients. We help keep our clients' furry companions healthy with the following veterinary services: wellness exams, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and flea prevention. These pets are transported to and from the veterinary clinics with the help of our AniMeals volunteers! **Unfortunately, we are unable to assist with emergency vet visits.**

PET CARE ASSISTANCE

We aim to support clients who are unable to care for their pets due to poor eyesight, injuries, or hospitalization. Our AniMeals volunteers assist clients in caring for their pets through dog walking, temporary fostering, and transportation for grooming services. Volunteers care for these pets for a set period of time as needed by the client.

Friendly Visitor works to provide much-needed social engagement to our homebound seniors and disabled neighbors. Seniors will receive valuable social interactions through one or more of the following services - Friendly Visits, Friendly Calls, and Friendly Mail.

Through Friendly Visits, seniors engage in a variety of positive and enriching in-person social activities like playing board or card games, reading their favorite books, watching a good movie, or just having great conversations. Seniors can also receive weekly calls and/or receive letters or cards. A senior can receive one or all three services from our trained and qualified volunteers. No matter what the client decides, these services are a great way to brighten their day and reduce the loneliness they experience!

To receive services from Friendly Visitors:

  • You must be receiving meals from Meals on Wheels San Antonio

If you are a current client, please call 210-735-5115 to speak with our Client Services Department.

Comfy Casas provides minor home repairs and various home appliances to low-income seniors and disabled adults. Client referrals come from intake assessment coordinators, volunteers, and paid delivery drivers. These essential visits enable us to identify and address the clients' home safety needs. The coordinator conducts an initial walk-through in person or over the phone in order to discuss much-needed repairs with the client. Minor home projects may be completed by volunteers. Projects beyond the scope of this service are referred to other organizations.

One of the easiest things we can do is make sure the temperature in our clients' homes is seasonally appropriate. So that means providing ACs and heaters to ensure our clients stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Over the past few years, we've helped hundreds of senior neighbors age comfortably and safely in their homes!

To receive services from Comfy Casas:

  • You must be receiving meals from Meals on Wheels San Antonio

  • Minor home repairs require the client to be the homeowner and reside in Bexar County

If you are a current client, please call 210-735-5115 and ask to speak with someone in Client Services about qualifying for these additional services.

While we appreciate the community's desire to donate to our Comfy Casas program, we are currently only accepting monetary donations.

We are always trying to provide the best items possible for our clients, for example: ensuring that fans/heaters are a certain weight and microwaves a certain wattage.

For any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at 210-735-5115.

While we appreciate food donations from the community, we order our ingredients in bulk from local suppliers. This ensures that our meals provide at least 1/3 of the dietary reference intakes (DRI) for essential nutrients. Bulk ordering also helps us easily accommodate special dietary needs.

Your support enables our senior neighbors to age independently and safely in the comfort of their own homes.

Meal Delivery volunteers deliver care and nutrition to the thousands of seniors and homebound members of our community every day while also getting to meet their neighbors and create lasting friendships with some of the amazing people they help us serve.

Friendly Visitor volunteers can help those we serve improve their physical, emotional, and mental well-being, by reducing loneliness and social isolation through in-person visits, phone calls, or weekly written mail.

AniMeals volunteers help those we serve keep their furry companions fed and healthy too! The primary opportunity for volunteers is to deliver supplemental pet food to clients the third weekend of the month.

Please click the button below to submit your application. It only takes about 5-10 minutes to complete, and you will need your driver's license information ready!
